Platinum Award for Impactful Facilitation

August 2021

RCA’s work is recognized by a leading research journal

We were thrilled to learn that our work was described in The Foundation Review, a leading peer-reviewed journal that researches the philanthropic sector. The article “How to Encourage Sustainable Change” was written by Allison Dymnicki (American Institutes for Research) and Alex Hooker and Rebecca Goldberg (both previously Senior Program Officers with the S.D. Bechtel Jr. Foundation) and examined how the foundation had partnered with grantees to build organizational capacity.

We worked with the foundation over a 5-year period as part of a system of supports to grantees in the National Character Initiative. We designed and facilitated a series of in-person and virtual convenings that promoted a learning culture and created opportunities for partnerships amongst the grantees. This supported a shift in the foundation’s approach to building the capacity of its grantees.

In our most recent newsletter, we reflect on the challenges and frustrations of the turmoil of what feels like permanent white water, but also being in a series of cascading waterfalls as we are battered by all the social upheavals that have confronted us in 2020. We share some guiding principles that we think leaders can use to steer through this period:

Randel Consulting Associates reaches milestone of 10 years in business!

We are delighted to share with you that we have reached a significant milestone as a small business – we are celebrating 10 years since Randel Consulting Associates was incorporated as a business in Maryland. Over these 10 years, we have worked with over 150 clients and interacted with over 10,000 people in meetings, workshops and other changes processes. We have supported over 70 team and organizational change processes with our clients, and advised on more than 50 major learning initiatives (in-person, virtual and blended).

We appreciate all our clients that have invited us to work with them over the years, and we look forward with anticipation to those we will encounter on the next phase of our work!

Like everyone else, our work has been disrupted by the global pandemic. We’re fortunate that we have gained experience over the last 15 years in working virtually with teams that are geographically dispersed – experience that is very relevant in this current context.

Loudoun County awards Randel Consulting Associates multi-year contract for Leadership Coaching

Kensington, Md., October 1, 2017 – Michael Randel, founder and director of Maryland-based Randel Consulting Associates, announced today that, following a competitive selection process, his company has been awarded a multi-year contract to provide Leadership Coaching services to Loudoun County, Virginia.

Loudoun County is one of the fastest growing counties in the United States, and the County Government is investing in the capabilities of its managers to lead the workforce through a period of growth and change. This contract allows county agencies to draw on high quality services from the Randel Consulting Associates coaching team.

As a result of regional procurement services, more than 30 county governments and public agencies across metropolitan Washington can also draw on these services.

World Bank Group awards Randel Consulting Associates multi-year contract for Team Effectiveness, Collaboration and Facilitation

Kensington, Md., March 1, 2017 – Michael Randel, founder and director of Maryland-based Randel Consulting Associates, announced today that, following a competitive selection process, his company has been awarded a multi-year contract to provide Team Effectiveness consulting services to the World Bank Group.

The World Bank Group operates in over 140 countries around the world, and aims to end extreme poverty and promote shared prosperity. This contract allows the organization to draw on the award-winning team consulting and facilitation services from the Randel Consulting Associates team.

Michael Randel is now an Authorized DiSC Facilitator

Kensington, Md., February 23, 2017 – Michael Randel, founder and director of Maryland-based Randel Consulting Associates, is available to work with clients using the EverythingDiSC Workplace, Management and Leadership reports.  These tools build self and team awareness, and can be used to provide individual, team and organizational culture profiles. Michael is using these tools in team and leadership development programs.

Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) lawyers learn about using facilitation to reduce the grounds for conflict

KENSINGTON, Md., November 6, 2015 — Michael Randel, founder and director of Maryland-based Randel Consulting Associates, led a webinar for members of the American Bar Association (ABA) Women in Dispute Resolution committee. The program focused on how building common ground, using facilitated processes with groups with differing objectives and priorities, can reduce the likelihood of conflict taking place.

Michael’s presentation introduced three case studies, each using a different approach to bring parties with different interests together. These approaches, using Scenarios, Future Search Conferences and Dialogue Mapping, can be effective in helping groups build a shared understanding of complex, messy, situations, and in fostering trusting relationships that can prevent or reduce conflictual situations. He also described the competencies that professional facilitators use in working with groups, helping them with participative processes to build agreement on objectives and relationships.

Michael is available to present these ideas and experiences in a variety of ways, ranging from keynote presentations, half-day, full-day and multi-day formats.  We also provide a range of short courses that equip people with the ability to facilitate effective meetings and workshops. Contact us for more details.

Michael Randel graduates from prestigious global Organization and Leadership Development program

Lisbon, Portugal, October 3, 2015 — Michael Randel, founder and director of Maryland-based Randel Consulting Associates, announced today that he has successfully completed the 18-month long International Gestalt Organization and Leadership Development (iGOLD) program.

The program provided an unparalleled opportunity to learn from top-class faculty drawn from around the world, and to experience individual, team and organizational systems in Europe, Africa and Asia. The program included client consultations in Hungary, South Africa and Singapore, providing grounded application for the gestalt principles of organization development and change.

Fairfax County Government  contracts Randel Consulting Associates multi-year award for Organization Development and Executive Coaching services

“Unleashing Results” with the Chesapeake Bay Organization Development Network

We were the keynote speaker at the october 2013 meeting of CBODN, the leading OD network in the mid-Atlantic region.

We introduced our experience working with groups that don’t always (or often!) agree with one another, but have to find a way to get together in order to address the complex, messy (“wicked”) problems that are facing them.

We shared lessons from our work with one group of organizations, which has resulted in international recognition for what they achieved together. We also described the practical tools that everyone can use to help their groups develop shared understanding and commitment on the way to achieving breakthrough results.

International Award presented to Randel Consulting Associates!

The International Association of Facilitators has awarded Randel Consulting Associates the Facilitation impact Awards’ gold impact Award. this award means a great deal to us, as it honors the “significant impact” the facilitation work with our client, the montessori leaders collaborative, has made to that organization.

Over the past 18 months, we have facilitated a series of carefully planned face-to- face and virtual meetings. the resulting achievements have been so remarkable as to be recognized by the IAF as one of the best examples of facilitation in the Americas over the last three years.

IAF Conference

Michael Randel led a well-received presentation at the recent IAF north America conference in Orlando, FL. His session “Unleashing Results – enabling shared understanding and commitment in groups tackling wicked problems” introduced the RCA framework for working with groups to achieve breakthrough results. He also demonstrated a number of the tools he uses in his facilitation work with clients, including Dialogue mapping and Powernoodle.
